Hi Wendy,
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for "Mired". I was listening to rocky mountain radio and almost fell off my chair in laughter. I used to attend *****, but ... their teaching is so wrong. I noticed on their web site that a man was standing in the middle of a huge women's luncheon, and I wondered if he was waiting tables???? But no the pastor said from the pulpit that his wife has more biblical knowledge than he, but a male pastor must be present at all women's functions.... Mark my husband said,"honey we're out of here". No worry I would have beaten him to the door. Oh the older and wiser I get I find the fewer places I can attend. Actually thank you for all your music it blesses me so much! With love in Christ, Sondra
Thank you, Sondra... and kudos to you Mark!
:-)Wendy

"Mired" Demo MP3
I chuckled through the entire writing and recording process of this song. Really though, I am pretty frustrated with the cultishness in churches about women. There is no Jew, Greek, male, female, slave, free.... in Jesus, we all have the same standing. We all sin in the flesh, we are all spotless before God because of the Cross. We are all flawed, but we are all equipped to reach out to the world with our various God-given gifts. That's pretty much the long and short of it... I hurt for any believers, not just women, who have allowed themselves to be put in a slot and who feel lesser before the God who loves them.
OK...yes, it really hapenned... the part about being told not to speak, that is. A number of things are happenning in the song. First, a fictional example of Scripture taken out of context... with men wearing hats with racks... then another equally insane literalistic interpretation which also makes fools of people but which really happens - commonly. Then, the event which happenned to me takes place... a small thing, but life changing in a negative way. Lastly, the response which I believe is a healthy, whole, sane thing to do... pack up the guitar case and beat feet.
I hope you are blessed and a little bit freer after hearing "Mired".
:-) Wendy
