Elaina is standing on the stairwell again, does she not know that she can fly away?
Elaina, climbing higher step by step, but she will never reach the sky that way.
Elaina, it looks so sad, should not someone remind her?
Elaina, has no one told her of the span of wings that stretch behind her?

Standing in the dust, she casts her eyes up to the heavens,
In dissappointment, her strength is laid to waste.
Wondering why she never can quite make it,
While tears of frusteration paint her face.

Elaina, what are you still doing on the ground?
Why don't you sail the wind?
Elaina, the sky is yours, stop trying to obtain it,
Just to fail again.
Elaina, thinks that she's a failure,
But even stars cannot compare to what she's worth.
Elaina, she looks so familiar,
Don't you think that we're a bit like her?

With our wings folded neatly behind us,
We glory in each step that we have climbed.
But how is one mile different from one thousand,
If none of them will ever reach the sky?

Standing in the dust, we cast our eyes into the heavens.
In dissappointment, our strength is laid to waste.
Wondering why we never can quite make it,
While tears of frusteration paint our faces.

But we have wings to fly away.
We are loved and we have grace.
We are free and justified.
So use your folded wings and take the sky.
Unfold your wings and take your sky.

(chorus)Lay me down (4X)

These workin' hands are through for the evening,
They've sowed their seed in the ground.
 Baby's asleep in the cradle.
'Till the morning, I'm gonna lay me down.

I've got sweet fields before me,
And everybody's running around.
But He maketh me lie down in green pastures.
Praise God, I'm gonna lay me down.

My poor mind can't do nothin' for me,
So at Your feet I humbly bow.
I'm gonna lay down all I am to my Jesus.
Sweet surrender, I'm gonna lay me down.

Rest o my soul in assurance,
Because I know that I'm heaven-bound.
And when my body's old and my course completed,
No tears, love, I'm just gonna lay me down.
Photographs and notes that say,
Silly things from yesterday,
There is something more here that's more than time and age.
Symphonies can make you cry,
And love will make you feel alive.
Oh it's beautiful how life floats on this way.

We sacrafice, we compromise,
we love to laugh, we fight for time.
There must be more to this than simply blood and clay.
We learn to fall, each day it seems.
We persevere. We birth our dreams.
Oh it's beautiful how life floats on this way.

Miracles like spring and fall,
Stars and seas, we've answered them all.
We know the bones of life, the innerworkings of this frame.
But what of love? And what of hope?
That which makes us come to life, logic cannot know.
The real stuff of life they never can explain.

(bridge) And I've heard them say,
That it's by chance we are this way,
That we are meaningless, simply bones and blood.
But open up your eyes,
I know you feel it, just as I,
There is meaning in life, and the meaning of life is love.
Every night a one o'clock she walks passed my front door.
I'm tired of wondering why she does it anymore.
Wrapped in her scarf, she lives just up the street,
Searching the sidewalk for dimes that we all know she doesn't need.

(chorus) She's (He's) never bothered a soul, so not a sould has asked her (him),
 Why? I couldn't say. Why?
There's no need to explain. She's (He's) feeling lonely today.

He sits inside his car each day and it's nothing new.
Everyone just figures that's just what he likes to do.
He wears his hat and watches people in the park.
I've seen him out at sunrise and he goes home when it gets dark.

You're bound to see him any time that you're in town.
And no one really knows just how long he's been around.
Bumming cigarettes in his cowboy hat each day.
He rarely lifts his head to see the life he walks away.

ENDING: All the happy people in the world are all the people who,
Have lived their lives with love without refrain,
Who love eccentrically and live their lives insideout, passionately,
Who look for not their own but others' gain.
Oh, so fill your lives with love.
Oh, fill your lives with love.
'Cuz love is all that will remain.
               You're love will remain.

I dial an old familiar number on my telephone,
Seems we've grown apart so far since I left home.
We haven't talked for ages, how do you do today?
I heard you found a new life along the way.

(chorus)But dear old friend, I often think of you,
And wonder how you are and what you're doin' now. And dear old friend, when I let my mind roam,
It comes around to you and I find a bit of home.

So I went off to college and you found your valentine, Do you still wear your silver locket, cuz I still wear mine.
Do you stil have the same grey coat to wear out when it rains,
So selfishly, I like to believe that not a thing has changed.
It's funny how the words don't flow as well as yesterday,
Seems that dreams and old memories get in the way.
You said "It's fun." you said, until it wasn't funny anymore,
What will you do, what will you do, when dreams lay broken on the floor.
I cannot find you anymore.
I tell the truth when I tell you I wrote this song with tears.
You've been decieved, you've been decieved please give
me open heart and ears,
To hear the way it goes with an intoxicated soul.
What happened to the youthful innocence and sincerity?
I used to write their lovesong, now I write their eulogy.
It was a tragedy.
You drink the poison from the demon that betrayed the others.
What makes you think that he'll show loyalty to you?
You slay yourself with the same sword that slew your only brother.
And you pretend, but I know you, and I know you know that it's true.
And that's the way it goes with an intoxicated soul.
What happened to your vengeance, has it been that long ago?
You tell me that it was the sword that killed him, and not your foe.
And now you join him at his table, where you freely dine.
You say, "He hasn't got that sword, so he can be a friend of mine."
And that's the way it goes with an intoxicated soul.
I miss you, come on back, come on. I've seen it over, on and on.
They say, "It's just a little nothin'." But then it's more and then you're gone.
Oh, the grave's the silent goal, of an intoxicated soul.
Who's this, shoeless, on the porchsteps?
True, she's clueless dressed so careless.
Dreaming, she'll seem quite ridiculous,
Bringing back something that you think you lost.

(chorus)That's my childhood (3X)
Coming home

Dandilion in hand, she's flyin' and she is free.
No time for a worried mind, she thinks of better things. Come what may, she lives day to day with her priorities, To love growing and live knowing there's more to see.

Today it's strange how different I feel.
Like I can do anything, like I have got brand new wings and like my dreams are real.
It's rather foolish, but oo it is so good to see,
A newness through this curiosity.
Two dreamers walking side by side,
Down a crystal lane,
The wind like Mozart,
The air just like champagne,
They stood inside a snowglobe,
Mysteries written in the white,
And there they built an empire,
Upon the diamond night.

(chorus)And when the kings and queens have gone,
And sunshine leaves the land,
When towers and castles crumble down,
One will stand..... ooo it is love. (4X)

They rode a chariot far away,
Into the palm tree night,
The ancient song lulled them to sleep,
Beneath the purple sky.
Girls danced with dasies in their hair ,
When summer found them wed.
The people came from miles around,
To hear what they said.
I come from a farmers town where the billboard hasn't changed,
Since 1958.
But out here in the city there's lights and lanes and all kinds
of things to be changin.'
You've got to keep on your toes when the world keeps rearranging.

(chorus) Change never changes, she's always rambin on.
Her feet are fit for marchin', and she'll keep marchin' on.
Some folks hate her, and when she's near they run and hide.
But I've decided that she's alright.

Back at home the barber is quite infamous for grumbling,
At girls selling lemonade.
And thanks to the town vote, the class of '52 still builds a float,
And rides in the parade.

(bridge)And I'm along for the ride.
I'm hangin'' on for my dear life.
I know I'll follow change to places I like very much,
But I still like the places that she don't touch.
There's a swing in the park, why don't we go there?
It is hours before dark, and there's fresh white snow there.
We can waltz through the years off to wonderous places.
Shall we dance while we laugh at the wrinkles on our faces?

(chorus) Life is ours to live, a gift that God gives,
And if there's one thing I can say:
Life will be quite splendid today.

There's a sunset on tonight, the tickets are free,
And I have front row seats, will you go with me?
We'll find shapes in the clouds, we've no place to go.
We'll find names for the stars in the moonglow.

There's a dream in the hall, let's go wake it.
There's adventure on the wall, let's go take it.
We can fly in the sea, we'll swim in the sky.
We will conquer the world and eat strawberry pie.

Why are you downcast, o my soul?
Why so weary within me?
By day the Lord's love rushes over,
And by night His song is with me.
(chorus)Deep calls to deep in the roar of Your waterfall.
All the waves in Your sea of love have swept over me.

When my soul is downcast within me,
When tears are my bread day and night,
My soul will still thirst for Your water,
And I will lift my hands to the sky.

And I'll put my hope in Your love,
In times when strength is not enough.
And through it all I'll praise Your name,
My savior, my God above.
On the brow of the horizon sat a lady,
Veiled in cloaks of light,
Like a flame of gold in the western sky,
She brushed the eaves of night.
And the glittering billows of her gown,
Danced across the sky,
And the last hush moments of the day,
Took refuge in her light.

(chorus) Steal away, steal away,
To midnight's hidden stair,
I'll be right behind and you will find,
Tomorrow waiting there.

She danced atop the chill grey mist,
And strung her colors far,
Saying, "Arise my love, arise my love."
And woke the wheeling stars.
And the foaming clouds rolled like the tide,
Cascading down her hair,
And quenched the ghostly grey of night,
And ebbed into the air.

Then her blooms of gold wilted ever so slow,
In twilights thickening.
Her footsteps rang into the night,
And I could hear her sing...
Blue skies send me dreaming again,
And I am once again a longing fool.
Doesn't seem right to spend this vibrant brushstroke of life,
Knowing black and white just what to do.

(chorus)I know that the tapestry's not woven,
And I dance from my heart because I live.
So please spend every waking moment,
Giving it all you have to give.

They think that they know everything there is to know, They think they've got it solved and have it made.
They don't know that you can taste a sunset if you try. The moon's a pearl and the sun is marmalade.

I want in my hands that rush of mountain air,
I wanna feel the stumbling water on my feet.
I want to said upon the sunset's rippling strands,
And watch the blooming stars surrounding me.
When there's frosting on the mountain,
Like powdered sugar over gold,
Or when the leaves are red as peppers,
And are about to loose their hold,
When the flowers are bright as tyedye,
When the rain falls down like tears,
When the sky is blue as your eyes,
I'll miss you most all year.

(chorus) And I'll meet you on the other side,
When the snow won't melt, and the flowers never die.
And I'll run straight to you,
With open arms, ten thousand years wide.

In the magic mist of memory,
I will meet you there,
With a backflip in your pocket,
And the blue sky in your hair,
With playful chaos on your brow,
Your heart and smiles full.
I'll think I see you now and then,
But I can't cry Wolf.

When nights sleeping under music
Never have to end in time.
When there's never another linen,
That you'll ever have to tie.
When the candied mints are never gone,
And the moon shines from your feet.
When a tiny patch of sadness
Can't take you away from me.
On a mountain far away, there lives a lady fair,
With clover eyes and rainbow tears and sunflowers in her hair,
She's a snow angel and dances to the pipe and fiddle old,
From grassy glade to babbling brook, she'll leave a trail of gold.

(chorus) Singin', oo la la and on she goes,
Daisy maiden, foe of roses,
Come and go friends do, she knows,
But we'll forever be.

With the words of different tongues she graces those who stare,
We sail upon the wheels of time, my feet dance on the air.
Through her mind dance myths of Danish boys and crecent moons,
The gingerbread man and the fork ran away with the spoon.

At the water's edge we'll stroll with hearts and garments light,
And talk of all things, big or small, and laugh always despite.
With pixie dust and memories and sparkling blues and greens,
I know so well the butterfly that floats through all her dreams.

She awakes to woodelves underneath the willow tree,
And without her, I'm lost, I found her, now she's family.
And when I'm caught in silken traps and cry out desperatly,
Having Jesus in her thoughts, she hears and rescues me.

We watch the planets, 'round they go, and steal her heart away.
And in return she steals them too, each side with broken pay.
These twinkling stars loved dearly her, and she loved them as well,
And cried a rainbow tear for Jupiter the day he fell.
If I speak with tongues of men and angels,
And love does not resound, it is only sound.
And if I have the wisdom of the ages,
And love does not shine through, I am just a fool.

(chorus) So fill me, Lord, with your spirit and your love,
Let me see the world through your eyes.
Remain in faith and hope and love,
But the greatest is love.

If I have the faith to move a mountain,
And love does not remain, it is all in vain.
And if I give my body to the flame,
And have not love, it is not enough.

(bridge) Tongues will be stilled,
Prophecies will cease,
Knowledge will pass away.
But through it all,
Beyond all of these,
Love will remain.
I know a tale of perfect love, the truest of it's kind,
Passed by kings and fishermen on tattered paper over time.
She was a lovely maiden, manner and beauty fair,
Held in the lair of a dragon fierce, she cried out in dispair.

(chorus) Rescue me, sweep me away,
I'm nothing on my own,
Lost in the depths I am captive here,
Come and lead me home.

He was a strong and fearless prince who loved this lady so,
He heard the cry and it seized his heart, so to the lair he rode.
On his valient steed he raced the wind, urged by the lady's cry.
He reached the lair and he ventured in and caught his lady's eye.

This filled the prince with urgency, and he leapt at the form below.
His breastplate shown as he drew his sword and faced his mighty foe.
And the maiden watched with confidence that her savior would prevail,
But she cried as his hands and side were pierced by the dragon's nail.
The prince looked at his scarlet wounds at the beast's triumphant yell,
He looked once more at the maiden's face, and to the dust he fell.

For three long days the maiden wept, her hope could not be found,
But love heard the cry and the maiden gasped as the prince rose from the ground!
And the dragon, defeated, shrieked with fear at the sight of the healed wounds red,
The prince was no longer dead!
And the prince swept the lady into his arms, the two embraced at last,
And they live in love that will never die, for death itself has passed.

Rescue me, sweep me away,
I'm nothing on my own,
Lost in the depths, I was captive there,
But love has lead me home.
Winds of change left me standing here alone,
Groping in the dark for things I've known.
Nothing here is where it used to be.
Seems that all is cahnging but me.

(Chorus) I watch the change fall like the rain,
Wash away all that I knew.
 How could this be reality?
I'm in a dream in which I'm so confused.
 You're silence is overwhelming.
You can take me, but tell me,
Will you do more than look at me?
Talk to me, I am calling!
Talk to me, I am calling.

Standing at the dawn of day so new,
Frightened and yet eager, I lift my hands to you.
I have nothing left of me to lend,
All that I can do now is surrender.

And then a still, small voice, says take my hand.

Suddenly I see what life can be,
Now that I am letting you giude me.
Lord, I place my life into your hands.
Take me through this dark and foreign land.

Because you, o God, will never ever change,
And you, o God, will always love the same.
Familiar to my eyes at just a glance,
Turn these unsure steps into a dance.
A eulogy for the stillborn song that left your lips unsung.
50 years or more along and never touched your tongue.
Condolences to the art in you that left the canvas hushed,
Colored your mind so vividly but never graced the brush.

(chorus)And I may live with ten thousand failures,
But I will not die with what-ifs.
And when I taste my last breath,
It will be rich with the life I have lived.

I know you hide the dance that died in fear before it's start,
That billowed about your soul for days but never left your heart.
I cry for the ideas in the womb of your mind.
The genius in the manuscripts not written, read, nor signed.

I know you run so far away from things you think you fear.
You'll find you are a conqueror if you'll just let them near.
I know about the beauty that you doubt and softly hide,
Those dreams, adventures, roads and risks not taken, touched nor tried.
You take my breath away, and you leave me speechless,
You give breath to me, and you give me words to say.

(chorus) And you are breathtaking,
yes, you are breathtaking.

I give my heart to you, broken though it may be,
And you give it back to me, mended and so complete.

I give my life to you, empty though it may be,
And you give it back to me, full of opportunity.

I give my burdens to you, take my fear and anxiety,
And in return for these, you give ,me peace.

(bridge) And to think that you love me,
And you payed these debts for me.

You give the world to me, fallen, dark and black,
And I'll do all within me, to make it lighter when I give it back.

Look at you, heart, hiding deep within,
Look at you, heart, you're broken again,
Look at you, heart, loving without return,
Look at you, heart, when will you ever learn?

(chorus) Stretching out for something to sustain you, Loneliness consumes you when you're blind, Tortured by thirst next to the fountain,
Wasting away next to the vine.

Look at you, heart, trying in vain,
To put together the pieces that remain.
Look at you, heart, let down and wronged.
Look at you, heart, aching, longing.

Look at you heart, untrusting and scared,
Reaching out for love, to find it isn't there.
Look at you, heart, burnt and tired.
Invited to a kingdom but you will not leave the mire.

(bridge) Clinging to the empty well from which you drew your smile,
You feel nothing, and mirages are all you've seen in a while. And right before you stands the prince of all you need. Offerings overflowing full of love and hope and peace.
Arms outstretched to take you far away from all the pain. Waiting just to dry your tears and love them all away.
